I’m understanding the mentality of closing the News of the World - the brand is toxic, so ditch it now before the whole of News International is tarnished beyond repair.
Run The Sun over 7 days, fair enough - it’ll still be the same paper, just a different name. As Don Draper said: “if the brand’s toxic, change the name”
It could even help Murdoch’s take-over of BSkyB - having lesser control over the British media.
And it’ll speed up the restructure of NI - there were already plans to merge and rationalise the common functions of the papers anyway.
But, the bit of this whole #NotW saga that I’m not understanding is why Murdoch is keeping Rebekah Brooks? I can only guess that she must know where the really important bodies are buried!
Fair to say that the revelations aren’t over yet. There will be more hacking victims identified in the next few days - and now with around 200 journalists sacked in Wapping the knives will be out.

What’s the verb for ‘Civil Partnership’?
In France, a civil partnership is called “Pacte de Solidarité Sociale” (PACS), and those clever folks have made up a new verb: “se pacser” - and “mon pacsé” is also used just like “my husband” or “my wife”.
It’s also been nicked by some Italians as a valid verb for their “Patto Civile di Solidarietà”, but it’s debatable if this is wide-spread entered the Italian lexicon.
I’m sure we’ll come up with something eventually without having to continually mangle the nouns around this. But, then again, we’ve never sorted out the confusion of introducing your “business partner” or “life partner”.
This makes me sad :O(
